- Abstract
This article discusses the presence of placental lakes, which are anechoic areas surrounded by normal placental tissue, in ultrasound imaging during pregnancy. The size, shape, and quantity of these lakes can vary throughout pregnancy. The clinical significance and cause of placental lakes are still uncertain, but they may be associated with conditions like pre-eclampsia and fetal growth restriction. The article presents a case study of a patient with a large retroplacental lake, but despite its size, no complications such as pre-eclampsia or fetal growth restriction occurred. The placental lake resolved without any issues, highlighting the uncertain clinical significance of these lakes.
