- Abstract
The article "‘Success Country in the East’? Regional Identity in Saxony" by Winfrid Halder deals with the regional identity in Saxony. It is pointed out that the region already had a strong identity before the reunification of Germany in 1990, which was evident in protests against the SED regime. The territorial continuity of Saxony and the well-founded research on regional history are mentioned as reasons for the persistence of regional identity. The text also discusses the career of the historian Karlheinz Blaschke and his role in the founding of the Institute for Saxon History and Folklore. It is emphasized that the institute's task is to research Saxon regional history and promote historical and regional awareness.
