- Authors
Nagbe, Horace P.
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the role of Liberian women in changing the politics of their country. It states that Liberia was a generally peaceful country attracting international tourism till 1989, when civil war broke out, plunging the country in political, social and economic turmoil till 2005. After years of torture and rape, a number of women led by Leyman Gbowee, created the Women in Peacebuilding Network (WIPNET), a prayer group which engaged in hunger strikes to pressure the government to end the violence and hold democratic elections in 2005.
