- Abstract
The article focuses on social performance studies, the study of actions performed outside of the theatre that have a definite impact on an audience. It traces the development of this type of study in China, citing the factors that led to its development, including the adoption of an open market economy and the rapid rise of television. The basic dualities underlying all social performances are explained. Examples of social performances derived from certain social disciplines in China are cited.
