- Abstract
Covid-19, caused by SARS-CoV-2, has led to millions of deaths worldwide since late 2019. Despite high vaccination rates, the virus still spreads, emphasizing the need for prevention. Most cases result in mild symptoms, but some develop severe complications due to an exaggerated immune response, known as a „cytokine storm,“ which can lead to acute respiratory distress, organ failure, or death. N-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids can modulate inflammation, potentially reducing cytokine overproduction. Supplementing these fatty acids may improve outcomes for critically ill covid-19 patients, as shown in some clinical trials, but further research is needed to confirm these findings.
