- Abstract
The article offers a study on the decomposition of methylthio-s-triazine herbicides by Rhodococcus sp. strain FJ1117YT as well as the production of methylsulfinyl, methylsulfonyl and hydroxy analogs. It attempts to form the biodegradatioon of pathway of simetryn through the separation of the methylsulfonyl analog and the hydroxy analog by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and/or nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis. Results highlight the oxidization and hydrolization of the methylthio group by the strain FJ1117YT. Apart from methylthio-s-triazines, the strain also metabolizes ametryn, desmetryn, dimethametryn, and prometryn. The authors stress the need for further study on the biodegrading function of the strain in agricultural environment.
