- Abstract
In order to investigate the characteristics of phytoplankton and evaluate the trophic status of Xinfengjiang Reservoir in southern China, a study was carried out from September 2019 to August 2020. The results showed that, total of 189 phytoplankton species was identified, belonging to 8 phyla and 89 genera. The abundance and biomass of phytoplankton ranged from 3.3×105~1.178×107 cells/L and 0.26~2.49 mg/L respectively. Phytoplankton cell density and dominant species were varied in temporal distribution. Early, Raphidiopsis and Planktolyngbya were dominant genera which functionally adapted to the mixture of water bodies. Lately, the dominant genera were Cyclotella and Chlorella, which adapted to the oligotrophic status of reservoir. Shannon-Wiener index and Pielous evenness index increased month by month, while Margalef richness index were decreased. Canonical correspondence analysis demonstrated that water temperature and dissolved oxygen were the key factors controlling phytoplankton community structure in the Reservoir. According to the comprehensive trophic level index, the Reservoir was oligotrophic. This study provides a scientific basis for water quality protection and eutrophication prevention and control in Xinfengjiang Reservoir.
