- Abstract
The article "Plastic Justice: Tribunals in Artistic and Political Activism" by Daniel Loick discusses the role of tribunals in political and artistic activism. It raises the question of whether political movements and artistic interventions should utilize the form of the court. On one hand, tribunals provide political impact and enable the denouncement of injustice and the initiation of political change. On the other hand, objections are raised against the form of the court, as it emphasizes individual responsibility and neglects broader social contexts. Art is considered as an alternative form of witnessing that allows for a fairer treatment of victims. The text also explores Michel Foucault's consideration of the table as an aesthetic setting in the context of justice. It points out that both form and content are historically conditioned and that a dialectical mediation of both strategies is necessary. The text discusses the significance of tribunals for contemporary political or artistic activism and mentions the People's Tribunal of Lens in 1970 and the Tribunal to Dissolve the NSU Complex as examples.
