- Abstract
A total of 27 species of primary freshwater fishes had been identified so far from the middle and upper reaches of Sungai Setiu, Terengganu. All recorded species were native to Peninsular Malaysia and mostly the residents of clean and clear headwater stream ecosystem. The collected species were largely common to many low order streams and can be a good indicator for pristine aquatic habitats. The findings of this study may be beneficial to conservation managers to prioritise areas for conservation and restoration.
