- Title
Economic Consequences of Conflict: The Rise of Iraq's In formal Economy.
- Abstract
The article reports on the growth of the informal sector of the Iraqi economy following the U. S.-led invasion in 2003. The history of Iraq is similar to that of many countries in the late 20th century; as economic, military, or political upheavals occurred, the formal economy faltered but the black market grew. Official ignorance and disregard of the informal economy is widespread and is making it more difficult to rebuild the country. The article provides an overview of the informal sector and its workers.
