Shore, Nathan Allen; Schaefer, Merlin C.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the dental case of temporomandibular joint dysfunction or head pain and the ways in treating it. It states that diagnosing the dysfunction is difficult because it requires the involvement of several specialists, including otolaryngologists and orthopaedists. The pain brought by the dysfunction can cause people to commit suicide. There are several factors that are present in the pain, including neuromuscular spasm of the pterygoid and stress that disturbs the muscles of the stomatognathic system. It cites that utilizing Shore Mandibular Autorepositioning Appliance is one way to alleviate the pain caused by the dysfunction.
