- Title
Amelioration of Surface Waters Affected By Acidic Deposition.
- Authors
Schreiber, R. Kent
- Abstract
The article focuses on amelioration of surface water, which is affected by acidic deposition. Studies conducted primarily in Scandinavia in the 1960's and 1970's demonstrated the aquatic systems with low alkalinities and in watersheds with poorly buffered soils were vulnerable to damage from acidic deposition. A multi-agency research effort, known as National Acidic Precipitation Assessment Program, was designed with a major goal to determine the extent of damage. In addition to the understanding of acidification process, it was also important to determine how its effects might be reversed.
