- Abstract
The article focuses on an unusual delayed patch test reaction to Para tertiary-butylcatechol. It discusses an irritancy test with p-tertiary-butylcatechol which was carried out on a 42-year-old nurse and other 5 staff member. A biopsy showed spongiosis and considerable oedema in upper dermis, with a dense perivescular lymphoreticular infiltrate containing an occasional plasma cell and polymorphonuclear leucocyte appearances compatible with a predominantly dermal reaction. Ten weeks later the nurse reported 3 discrete circular, erythematous plaques at the test sites, itchy but not vesicular.
