- Abstract
A 55-year-old man had a 10-day history of itchy red vesicular lesions on the scalp arranged in a band on the forehead. The distribution was suggestive of a hat dermatitis. He was patch tested with the Standard European Series (I). He was positive to potassium dichromate (++), cobalt chloride (++), PPD mix (++) and paraphenylenediamine (++) at 48 h. Patch tests with the hat constituents and their water extracts were negative. Samples were analyzed in an atomic absorption spectrophotometer of water and synthetic sweat extracts of the hat components and the results are elaborated in the article. The lesions cleared completely in I week with topical steroids and avoidance of contact with the hat.
