Racial difference in the prognosis of lupus nephritis.
- Authors
Chi Chiu Mok
- Abstract
The author discusses the prognosis of lupus nephritis with emphasis on the racial differences of patients. He mentions that in a multi-ethnic cohort of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients in the U.S., renal disease occurred in 51% of blacks and 43% of Hispanics but only in 14% of whites. He suggests that the need for further improvement in the management of the condition, which can be achieved by earlier diagnosis of SLE and referral for specialist care is critical.
