Evaluation of synergistic effect of nanoparticles with antibiotics against enteric pathogens.

- Abstract
The samples isolated from blood were 250, out of these, 83 (33.2%) were positive, while 167 (66.8%) were negative. The organisms identified in the blood were Escherichia coli 22 (26.5%), Staphylococcus aureus 50 (60.2%), and Salmonella 11 (13.2%). According to our findings, the enteric pathogens occur in Peshawar are mainly resistant to oxacilin, doxycycline, and tetracycline, while these microbes are sensitive to kanamycin, cefoxitin, and netilmicin. In a similar study the researchers collected blood and they found similar results, i.e. S. aureus (35.9%) followed by E. coli (15.4%). Silver nanoparticles showed the zones of inhibitions against E. coli (11 mm), Salmonella (7 mm), and S. aureus (8 mm), while no inhibition against Shigella, Klebsiella, and Pseudomonas. In another report, silver nanoparticles showed the zone of inhibition against E. coli (13 mm) and S. aureus (11 mm). The synergistic effect of silver nanoparticles and oxacilin showed no zone of inhibition (ZOI) against Shigella, Salmonella, and Klebsiella, while the ZOI against E. coli, Pseudomonas, and S. aureus was 17, 20, 10 mm, respectively. Combined effect of AgNPs and tetracycline showed no ZOI against Shigella and Klebsiella, while the ZOI against E. coli, Pseudomonas, Salmonella, and S. aureus was 20, 20, 12, and 10 mm, respectively
