- Title
DECOMMISSIONING COSTS AND BRITISH NUCLEAR POLICY.
- Authors
MacKerron, Gordon
- Abstract
The article discusses the nuclear policy in Great Britain and decommissioning costs. It says that stages of decommissioning are defueling, removal of structures outside the biological shielding, removal of radioactive core and site restoration. The Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB) found that stricter environmental standards surged decommissioning costs of Magnox stations in stage 3 in 1988. It adds that costs further rose during the administration of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher due to electric utility privation in November 1989.
