- Title
Wherefore Verona in The Two Gentlemen of Verona?
- Authors
Bergeron, David M.
- Abstract
The article argues that "The Two Gentlemen of Verona," by William Shakespeare, has an inappropriate title, based on the fact that the play does not reference that it actually takes place in Verona, Italy. The article examines the importance of titles in the works of Shakespeare, specifically his comedies. It is suggested in the article that the few times Verona is mentioned in the play it could possibly be an editorial error. The article explains that Shakespeare may have used Verona for the sake of advertising.
