- Abstract
Lethal concentration (LC) is used to estimate the toxicity of pesticides to arthropods. However, LC is an incomplete measure of the effects of products on populations, since it only analyzes mortality as a parameter of toxicity. It is known that individuals who survive exposure to pesticides may suffer sublethal effects. In this work the lethal and sublethal effects of pyroligneous acid and lime sulfur were studied in the population growth of the whitefly Trialeurodes vaporariorum under laboratory conditions. Lethal effects were estimated through acute toxicity test obtaining dose-response curves and their respective lethal and sublethal concentration effects through the estimate of the instant rate of population growth (ri). Lethal and sublethal concentrations of pyroligneous acid for T. vaporariorum was 11,05% and 4,02% of the product, respectively, and for stock lime sulphur it was 1,13% and 0,40% of the product, respectively, indicating that they could be used to control the whitefly T. vaporariorum.
