An editorial is presented in which the authors discuss a National Institute on Drug Abuse and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration objective known as the Helping to End Addiction Long-Term (HEALing) Communities Study (HCS), particularly focusing upon racial equity and substance abuse research.
