- Abstract
In China, more than 70% of fishery products are produced by the aquaculture sector, and more than 45% is produced by pond aquaculture. The aquaculture model and the aquatic ecological engineering techniques applied in the development of pond aquaculture in China reviewed by Liu et al. may have reference value for developing such aquaculture practices. Liu et al. review the efforts devoted to understanding ecological processes in these pond-based polyculture systems, as well as the ecological engineering techniques which have been implemented in aquaculture practices for improving or maintaining water quality for sustainable aquaculture production.
