- Abstract
This study focuses on the effects of firm growth on employee well-being. More precisely, we argue that it is important to consider not growth per se, but unanticipated (i.e., unplanned) growth. Using matched employer-employee data combined with bi-annual work environment survey data we study the well-being of individuals working at young Swedish ventures. We show that unanticipated growth is an important concept that has so far received little attention within the growth literature, and it has a negative effect on the wellbeing of employees since it represents an unplanned organizational change.
