- Title
PICTURES FROM THE COLLECTION.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the history of a photograph of Lieutenant-General Ulysses Simpson Grant taken on March 8, 1864 in Washington, D.C. The picture is part of the Ansco collection. It was taken at the photographic gallery of Mathew B. Brady after Grant received the three stars of a Lieutenant-General from President Abraham Lincoln. To get more light into the studio, Brady sent an assistant up on the roof to move some shades away from the skylight. Brady made four exposures of Grant in that session.
