- Abstract
The article provides an overview on the latest report "To Read or Not to Read: A Report of National Consequence" from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) on the state of reading in the U.S. The report reveals that compulsory reading has remained constant from 1984-2004, and fifty percent of high school seniors read less than one hour per week for pleasure. Moreover, 82% of freshmen and 75% of seniors are reported that they are reading 0-4 unassigned books in 2007.
