- Abstract
This article discusses a case of chromoblastomycosis, a neglected fungal infection, in a 40-year-old farmer in Madagascar. The patient presented with a nonpainful, itching wound on his knee that had worsened over the course of a year. The diagnosis was confirmed through a skin biopsy, which showed characteristic features of chromoblastomycosis. Treatment with systemic itraconazole and topical bifonazole cream resulted in significant improvement and almost complete healing of the lesion. Chromoblastomycosis is a chronic fungal disease that primarily affects individuals in rural areas of subtropical regions, and it is considered a neglected tropical infection due to limited resources for diagnosis and treatment. The recommended treatment is itraconazole, but due to limited access and cost, a lower dosage combined with topical treatment may be effective.
