- Authors
Landy, Michael S.
- Abstract
The article discusses the visual perception of surface materials. According to the author, there are many visual attributes that help humans distinguish different surface materials such as lightness and texture. He stresses that perceived surface roughness and translucency depend on image statistics, and explains how might the visual system can compute statistics such as histogram skew. An overview of the study conducted by I. Motoyoshi and colleagues describing surface perception is presented.
