Conservation biology: Unkind cuts for incense.
- Authors
Moore, Peter D.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the effects of resin-tapping on the tree cycle of the Boswellia trees for the production of frankincense in Eritrea. According to the research of Toon Rijikers, germination of trees which are annually tapped is about 20 percent while a figure of 80 to 90 percent of germination is achieved in the trees which are untapped. To solve the problem, self-regulation should be promoted for long-term sustainability of the trees.
