- Abstract
Floriculture is a science considered to be a branch of ornamental horticulture dedicated to the cultivation of flowers and ornamental plants for commercialization, as well as the production of floral arrangements. This economic activity is mostly practiced under protected conditions. Currently, the demand and production of gerbera has increased in the market, being one of the most important species for pot production, together with rose and lilium. The objective of this research was the adaptation of six potted gerbera hybrids under nursery conditions, in the ornamental plant nursery of the Orizaba-Córdoba region, i.e., the time factor significantly influences the adaptability and development of the evaluated hybrids. The result obtained based on the objectives was favorable, because it was possible to prove that the agronomic behavior of four of the gerbera hybrids adapted and evaluated in pots under the conditions of the FCBA is adequate for their development in terms of their agronomic characteristics and soil and climatic conditions subjected, therefore, they can be considered as the basis for an alternative crop for nurserymen in the central region of Veracruz.
