- Abstract
This article presents information on proceedings of the Society for Pediatric Dermatology Meeting, to be held from June 29-July 1, 1995, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Charles Prober from Stanford University reviewed neonatal herpes simplex virus infections (HSV). Primary HSV-2 infection late in pregnancy increases the risk of prematurity and intrauterine growth retardation. Congenital HSV infections resulting from intrauterine infection occur in a small proportion of newborns with HSV. The majority of newborns with HSV infection have acquired the infection during delivery. Occasionally, transmission occurs from direct contact with an individual with a non-genital lesion.
