- Abstract
The article discusses a study which confirmed that Rio Mamore virus (RIOMV) is a highly pathogenic hantavirus which causes hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) associated with cardiopulmonary failure. Topics discussed include the case of a 28-old man admitted with a 4-day febrile illness, reported RIOM-3-infected Oligoryzomys microtis rats in the patient's location in Brazil and infection of the patient as a consequence of close physical contact with an RIOMV-infected rat.
