- Abstract
The article discusses the challenges, failures, strategies, and successes of Norway's Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), launched in March 1993 with the aim of increasing breastfeeding rates and interaction between mother and child through implementation of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. BFHI was expanded to include the neonatal intensive care unit and community health services. BFHI's outcomes and plans for an electronic method for reassessment of compliance are described.
