- Title
Plasma HIV-1 RNA Levels During Antiretroviral Therapy: How Low Is Low Enough?
- Authors
Gandhi, Rajesh T.; Deeks, Steven G.
- Abstract
The authors reflect on the significance of low levels of plasma human immunodeficiency virus type 1 RNA during anti-retroviral therapy, where low and undetectable viral load acts as an indicator of the effectiveness of the therapy. They state that viral replication and viral release from latent sources is an important factor adding to viremia. They also comment on the threshold level established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for evaluating the success of the treatment.
