- Authors
ELIZALDE, ALEJANDRO
- Abstract
This article studies the collecting of Murillo's works and those of his followers in northern Europe, specifically the Netherlands, from where they were subsequently dispersed among cities such as Paris, Vienna and Munich. Special attention will be paid to genre scenes, above all to those featuring "street urchins", all of which were outside the Iberian Peninsula by the mid-*18 century, as this article will aim to demonstrate. The reasons for the popularity of these compositions among the leading European dealers and collectors are also discussed here.
