- Title
Antigen-Based Therapy for the Treatment of Type 1 Diabetes.
- Authors
Tian, Jide; Kaufman, Daniel L.
- Abstract
The article discusses type 1 diabetes treatment with the use of antigen-based therapy (ABT). It notes that ABTs prevent or stop autoimmune diseases by stimulating regulatory T-cell responses or active tolerance as well as inducing passive tolerance or anergizing/deleting pathogenic T-cells. It is said that ABT has the potential to delay the onset of type 1 diabetes and preserve the function of β-cells in latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) patients and diabetic children. It adds that ABT tends to provide deleterious effects.
