- Abstract
The article discusses the relation between gender and union contracts, analyzing workplace policies related to work-family issues in collective bargaining by nurses and firefighters. It is said that union contracts for these occupations are related to conventional gender roles, noting contract attention to work schedules, pay rates, and time off. Other topics include contract provisions for overtime, the role of child care in the lives of workers, and the use of vacation time in relation to contracts.
