- Title
Immunology: Actin' dangerously.
- Authors
Brown, Gordon D.
- Abstract
The article focuses on studies on the mechanisms of immune cells in identifying cell damage such as the sensing of actin. It states that immune cells use pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) to detect infection and damage in cells. It says that intracellular signaling pathways may be triggered by PRRs such as Toll-like receptors. It discusses the roles of actin such as its presence in eukaryotes, association of actin-binding proteins and facilitation of cell division.
