The Interplay of Three Types of Feedback in a Translation Classroom: Inter-feedback, Intra-feedback, and Teacher Feedback.

- Abstract
This study explored and compared the following three types of feedback from students majoring in Korean- Japanese translation and interpretation: (1) conventional reviewer-writer exchanges, (2) intra-feedback (i.e., feedback on feedback) focusing on the writer's feedback, and (3) a combination of teacher and peer feedback. A total of thirty-two students studying translation and interpretation at a graduate school in Korea participated in the two types of peer feedback. This study found that learners slightly preferred a combination of peer and teacher feedback over peer feedback alone. That is, peer feedback is viewed as either complementary or supplementary to teacher comments. This study found a statistically non-significant difference in preference for either peer feedback with teacher comments or peer feedback without teacher review. This is inconsistent with previous study results in which high school and undergraduate students significantly preferred a combination of feedback methods. Although peer feedback is useful for identifying errors and improving speaking skills, there is doubt over its efficacy in improving translation capabilities. Learners thus regarded a combination of peer and teacher feedback as the second-best option. In this respect, this study suggests that intra-feedback can serve as a pre-training method. It should improve reviewer capabilities by mutually supporting feedback
