- Abstract
The first installment of this two-part report investigates the interfacial structure and electrochemical reactivity of ultrathin Pd films prepared by potentiostatic electrodeposition onto well-defined Pt(111) surfaces. The growth of ultrathin Pd films follows a Stranski-Krastanov mechanism as indicated by the results from voltammetric methods in tandem with low-energy electron diffraction and Auger electron spectroscopy. An electrochemical analog to high-temperature annealing is proposed based on multiple voltammetric cycling between the hydrogen evolution and the double-layer regions in the presence of aqueous bromide.
