- Abstract
This article explores the relationship between plasma lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) levels and calcification activity in the thoracic aorta and aortic valve in individuals with diabetes mellitus who have not taken statin therapy. The study used 18F‐Sodium Fluoride Positron Emission Tomography (18F‐NaF PET) to detect calcification activity and found that Lp(a) is a causal risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and may contribute to arterial calcification. The findings provide valuable insights into the complex pathophysiology of arterial calcification in individuals with diabetes mellitus. Further research is needed to explore potential therapeutic interventions.
