- Abstract
Leukocyte migration test (LMT) responses to benzyl penicillin (BP) were studied in 129 subjects with or without skin symptoms of hypersensitivity (SSH) to this drug; 197 LMT were performed. In subjects without SSH, the LMT was found to be positive in 26% of the cases before treatment, in 50% of cases during penicillin treatment and in 45 % of cases just after the end of treatment. Five patients with a positive LMT prior to the treatment received penicillin without an adverse reaction, indicating that a positive LMT has no predictive value. However, kinetic differences were found between subjects with and without SSH; one month after the end of the treatment, 23 % of the LMT were positive in subjects without SSH, versus 52% in patients with SSH. Patients with maculo papular rashes showed the highest percentage of positive LMT (63%).
