- Title
When systems fail: An unhappy tale of a busy night shift.
- Authors
Symon, Andrew
- Abstract
The article discusses the British court case FE v. St. George's University Hospitals NHS Trust which deals with how a lack of communication between medical teams led to a baby suffering neurological damage as a result of an acute hypoxic-ischaemic episode. According to the article, the baby was under the care of midwifery and medical teams during a busy night in January 2001. The author considers the case within the context of systemic approaches trying to address intra- and inter-professional communication.
