- Abstract
One of the important themes in CSR communication is how companies can get maximum profit by communicating the CSR that they carry out appropriately. This study reviews the CSR communication literature to formulate a number of indicators of communication quality. Furthermore, this indicator is applied to measure the quality of explicit CSR communications made by companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Data were obtained from the annual reports of these companies and analyzed using content analysis. The sample consists of 43 companies from various fields. It was found that in general, old companies tend to be more intensive in implementing CSR and more enthusiastic in expressing it. Companies in the financial, infrastructure and primary consumer goods sectors mostly visualize and detail CSR, although they still tend to be rational rather than emotional. The narrative on all types of companies and regardless of the majority share tends to be rhetorical, indicating that CSR is still considered unable to attract the attention of investors so that it is not communicated seriously and is even marginalized in the narrative of the annual report.
