- Title
Enhanced Cardiac Testing in a Dual Anti-HER2 Regimen:What Have We Learned?
- Authors
Ewer, Michael S.; Swain, Sandra M.
- Abstract
The authors comment on the use of anthracycline as cancer treatment which caused cardiac dysfunction which was sometimes fatal. They say that anthracycline toxicity was related to the cumulative dose. They note that a database of endomyocardial biopsies revealed that myocyte death followed when the drug was administered above a threshold dose. They add that higher cumulative doses resulted in higher biopsy specimen grades revealing increased cellular injury and greater loss of myocytes.
