- Title
Mass extinctions: Ecological diversity maintained.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article presents a study which examines the extreme loss of diversity in the aftermath of the Permian mass extinction. The study shows that the main ecological modes of making a living on the sea floor stayed stable in number, although temporary losses in particular marine settings were severe. It reveals that the lack of vacated ecospace during the Permian extinction could explain why few higher taxa and only one novel mode of life originated in the early Mesozoic.
