- Title
Motivational Interviewing in Crisis Counseling With Victims of Intimate Partner Violence.
- Authors
Campbell, Kimberly Brown
- Abstract
Motivational Interviewing has been used within the criminal justice system in several communities as a treatment model for perpetrators of intimate partner violence (IPV) to promote intrinsic positive change in abusive behavior towards partners. This article describes use of this technique in crime advocacy services in western Montana. The guiding hypothesis is that changing batterer behavior will last longer and be more successful if it comes from intrinsic motivation rather than being coerced by outside forces. The author presents results from a recent study using this technique.
