The article discusses various lessons from clinical and animal studies about the anabolic effects of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) on skeletal growth and development. It describes clinical cases of growth hormone-IGF-1 (GH-IGF-1) mutations. It explores the role of IGF-1 in adulthood and aging. It also offers an understanding to the development of tissue-specific gene inactivation.
