- Abstract
As assimetrias faciais representam uma característica humana comum, se tornando importante quando o paciente se queixa de repercussões estéticas ou funcionais. A etiologia do crescimento facial assimétrico pode ser de origem congênita, genética ou adquirida. O diagnóstico precoce das assimetrias aumenta a previsibilidade do tratamento, reduzindo a morbidade cirúrgica. O tratamento visa reestabelecer a estabilidade oclusal através das funções maxilomandibulares, bem como uma melhora estética. O aumento do volume na região dos côndilos da mandíbula, denominado hiperplasia condilar, corresponde a uma má-formação de desenvolvimento, autolimitada, resultando em assimetria facial perceptível associada a distúrbios no plano oclusal. A hiperplasia condilar geralmente é unilateral, possui uma duração indeterminada do crescimento e frequentemente inicia-se durante o estirão de crescimento puberal. A cirurgia ortognática bi-maxilar associada a condilectomias é o tratamento de escolha para assimetrias faciais com alteração do plano oclusal e dos condilos mandibulares. O presente trabalho visa relatar o caso de um paciente jovem, 16 anos, com queixas de alteração da oclusão dentária e desvio de mento após dois anos de finalização do tratamento ortodôntico. Com o diagnóstico de hiperplasia condilar unilateral, o mesmo foi tratado precocemente com a condilectomia sem necessidade de cirurgia ortognática complementar, reduzindo assim aintervenção cirúrgica e levando a um resultado estético e funcional satisfatório
