- Abstract
We found significant differences occurred in the position and orientation of the tracheostomy tube following repositioning of a patient from I insertion i to I nursing i positions, irrespective of the scoring system used. Fourteen patients (10 males, 4 females) undergoing new tracheostomy had paired T- and L-view images taken in the I insertion i and I nursing i positions. It is likely that a suitable endoscope is available during tracheostomy insertion and we see no potential barriers to implementation of our recommendations, which have the potential to improve the safety of tracheostomy care.
