- Title
Cancer metabolism: A waste of insulin interference.
- Authors
Wagner, Erwin F.; Petruzzelli, Michele
- Abstract
The article examines research published in "Developmental Cell" on research that found interference with insulin signalling in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster resulted in systemic organ wasting similar to that in the metabolic disorder cancer-associated cachexia (CAC). It states there are no biomarkers available to identify patients at risk of developing CAC and no cure. It mentions researchers found secretion of the insulin growth factor binding protein ImpL2 caused systemic wasting.
