The article presents a study of changes in the assembly of species within Australia's Adelaide metropolitan area from 1836 to 2002. It highlights long-term patterns linked with the modifications in biotic and abiotic environments while urban systems flourish. It also notes the extinction of 132 species of animals and plants in the country.
